Lunar Cycles

These occur in an unending sequence, each unique and yet exerting a powerful effect on present and future New and Full Moons, depending on what aspects are made, which points are stimulated, and how they relate to others sharing these points and aspects.

Each Full Moon releases the potential of the previous New Moon. They are "God's Footprints in Time,". They occur with amazing regularity, each showing some planetary patterns left over from previous lunations while introducing new ones. This is particularly true in terms of what sequence of points are activated, as well as the aspect patterns in the outer planets which at times don't change very quickly at all.

Some Full Moons are in the same sign as the previous New Moon, while other Full Moons fall in subsequent signs, lending variation on how the potential can fulfill itself in form. For example, in 2007 we had a series of Full Moons early in the month followed by New Moons later in the same sign. Then we had a sequence of Blue Full Moons, where we had two Full Moons in a month. The month it happened depended on where in the world you live. You can check the position of new moons and full moons in This Lunar Calendar to check how they come and go regularly.

Branches Of Astrology

NATAL (Genethical)

The Astrology based upon the individual's nativity.

Traditional - Personality, life circumstances, finances, etc.

Esoteric - A philosophical approach to the meaning of the chart.

Medical - The study of health related issues in the chart.

Locational - The branch of Astrology that uses location to determine astrological effect.

Relocation Charts - A technique which is used to determine how a move to a new location will affect your life.

Astro*Carto*Graphy - A new technique, developed by Jim Lewis, used to find where on the Earth the planets were angular. These locations will have more meaning for an individual even if just visiting there.

JUDICIAL

The Astrology based upon Eclipses, Lunations, Ingresses, or particular moments in time.
Horary - Charts drawn to help find lost objects, answer questions, etc. The person asking a query states a question and a chart is drawn for the time of the question to get an answer.

Electional - Charts drawn to pick the best time to start an enterprise. This is the opposite of what is done in Horary Astrology because in this branch of Astrology, you try to find a chart to fit your needs.

Mundane - Charts drawn for the study of Nations and Political Events.

Meteorological - For predicting long-term weather trends.

Astro-economics - Business cycles in the stock market.

Ethics Of Astrology

Most of us go and confide in an astrologer with our horoscopes. What do they do with it? Do they keep it safe? Do they use the information gleened private? Is there a code of ethics for the astrologer? Of course there is a code of ethics. In fact, it is not just limited to a single code that has to be followed. A good and truthful astrologer may follow several ethical codes. If you don't follow some sort of ethical code, you will self-destruct, or your practice will.

The first rule for the astrologer who offers professional services is privacy: What the client tells you in confidence is confidential.

That sounds simple, but a lot of people tend to give out bits and pieces of what they know. This may happen consciously or even without realising. If the astrologers do not take active steps to remind themselves continually that this matter is not public information, they will end up spilling private information in public domain and also will mix it up so badly that it would become harmful. Now there is a line that may be drawn here, if you use the data on public figures like Madonna or Bill Gates, the information may already be available in public domain. So giving away that information  might not exactly  be termed unethical.

Astrology A Religion

Astrology isn't a religion, at least not for everyone, although there are some who see astrology as their religion. It all depends, of course, how you define religion: Some see astrology as their religion, for others science is a religion, and for others something else. Even scepticism serves as a religion for some.

Most astrologers have, of course, their own religious convictions; very few astrologers are atheists. According to astrologer Roger Elliot's report in The Astrologer Journal about a questionnaire study among astrologers 78% of astrologers believed in God, and 15% said perhaps. Only 7% came out for atheism. But how did they define God? For most astrologers God was "the creative force behind nature", for most atheists "an historical myth".

Many astrologers saw no connection between astrology and religion. And many didn't want to mix up religion and astrology, for instance Judith Schofield said in the study, that she suspected "the motives of those who try to find a link between God and astrology."

Astrology's Reputation

In the modern age, Astrology's reputation has taken a lot of beating due to the commercialisation. It is much touted as the New Age mumbo-jumbo due to low-level magazine horoscopes as well as by all kinds of soothsayers advertising their telephone lines in the entertainment sections of many newspapers and magazines. The problem is, that most of these so called soothsayers have only the elementary knowledge about sun signs. This kind of popular astrology was brought into limelight by Linda Goodman, whose books about finding love through sun signs were major hits. No wonder then, that astrologer Dennis Elwell wrote that "one can only shudder at the idea of telephone consultations." In using astrological telephone lines you should, at least, make sure that you are talking to a competent astrologer.

Astrology is a wild area. There do not exist any regulations as to who and what can constitute an astrologer. As far as can be seen, in many countries, all kinds of fortune-tellers or crystal gazers can put a sign at their doors and begin to call themselves astrologers. Thus the client is always the one who has to take care of the quality by choosing a qualified astrologer.

How Old Is Astrology?

Astrology is basically a database collected over centuries. It relates to movement of celeatial bodies through different constellations and these movements have been observed over centuries. Astrology isn't just any New Age mumbo-jumbo. In fact true astrology hasn't much to do with New Age at all, it's age-old wisdom. It has been in use since ages and more so in the New Age world. Although it is being used in New Age world, it is being applied and used in a manner that would not find approval with much of astrologers who call themselves purists. As a lot of people are interested in astrology, the word 'astrology' is often used as a bait to sell all kinds of things and services

Astrology As Entertainment

This is a serious question. If you want it to be, Astrology can be entertainment. But to consider just that, entertainment, would be a serious mistake. Even so, entertainment may be found even in most serious type of astrology. And this can happen without the astrology loosing any of its deeper inner meanings or connotations. Like any other form of entertainment, Good astrological entertainment has its own value. In modern times, the entertainment part of astrology gets lost in commercialisation and is most of the times very superficial. We all know - and many of us read - different kinds of weekly and monthly horoscopes in magazines.

These horoscopes are usually based only on the Sun signs (the horoscope signs), because most people know their own Sun signs, and only a few their other astrological signs. The lesser we talk about the quality of horoscopes in magazines and newspapers, the better it will be. In most cases, these horoscopes are not even cast by astrologers and in some cases have even become a profitable industry for some of the magazines and newspapers. Sun signs are an important part of astrology, and horoscopes based on them an age-old technique, and thus, if well done by competent astrologers, they have their own place in astrology. In fact, many people find serious astrology through them.

Bollywood, fun, friendship, sports and more. You name it, we have it.

What Is Astrology

There is no fixed answer to this. There are probably as many definitions of astrology as there are astrologers. Before we set out to define, a basic premise is made that the Universe is seamless and is whole. Based on this premise, astrology can be defined as a symbolic system or language used to interpret the "goings on" in the universe with respect to planetary motions and the motions of whole systems themselves. These symbols and the language is ages old. It works on a data set compiled through the ages. You could say that astrology is a store of knowledge and meanings gathered through the history of mankind, a kind of cornucopia full of insights of how men in general have experienced and understood life.

It is an art, it is a science, used to study the cycles of life. Please note that here we talk about cycles of life. These cycles may be short, or long. We may experience these cycles in a life time or not. Some of them are so long sycles that we may not realise them unless we became fully knowledgeable or reached a state called "Nirvana". However, there are other cycles that we all experience many times in our lives, and through these we come to know why something happens when it does and how that impacts the way we are shaping our "destiny."
